Strategic Plan 2009-2013
The SCAN Foundation’s mission is to advance the development of a sustainable continuum of quality care for seniors. Ultimately, the Foundation envisions a society where seniors receive medical treatment and human services that are integrated in the setting most appropriate to their needs and that offer them the greatest likelihood of a healthy, independent life. Reaching this mission and realizing this vision will require a major shift in the way that services for seniors are financed and delivered. This, in turn, will require public policy reform.
Principles Underlying the Funding Priorities
To achieve its mission and vision, The SCAN Foundation has developed funding priorities that are grounded in the following six principles:
- The Foundation seeks to establish a unique role, one that no other foundation is playing.
- The Foundation leverages its resources to the extent possible by collaborating with other foundations.
- The Foundation concentrates on a limited number of strategic priorities and commissions much of the work that it supports.
- The Foundation has a long-term perspective.
- The Foundation’s funding priorities and the steps to reach them will be measurable to the extent possible.
- The Foundation must be nimble and prepared to respond to unanticipated opportunities to advance its mission.
