Strategy 2.3.1 – Convene high-level meetings of stakeholders
Aging and disability organizations have been working independently for years to change state and federal public policy in order to better support the needs of people requiring assistance with long-term services and supports (LTSS). In April 2009, The SCAN Foundation funded the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to convene and staff a unique collaborative of aging and disability organizations, and to build consensus around LTSS policy options to jointly promote to lawmakers. This collaborative, informally known as the Friday Morning Collaborative (FMC), has made strides in educating policy makers about LTSS, sending a unified message that it is important to enact federal legislation and move toward a comprehensive continuum of care. During their second year, the Collaborative will continue to work collectively at the federal level, to support the aging and disability communities in effectively shaping long-term care policy in ways that support those with current and future needs.
