Archstone Foundation Announces the Release of a New Funding Opportunity Under its Responsive Grantmaking Efforts

The Archstone Foundation, similar to The SCAN Foundation, supports programs that seek to improve the continuum of care for older adults. The Archstone Foundation's "Supportive Communities for Aging" request for proposals (RFP) is open to eligible organizations in Southern California. The goal is to support and enhance the integration of aging services that will increase the quality of life for those age 65 and older living independently in the community. The Archstone Foundation seeks innovative ideas that are community-driven, leverage upon existing services and establish and/or form partnerships for collaboration across systems.

Proposals are due no later than April 1, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. For more information on the RFP and the application process please visit www.archstone.org.

UCLA Policy Note on California's Proposed Budget Cuts to Senior Services Receives Wide Media Coverage

February 19, 2010

A Feb. "Policy Note" from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research found that hundreds of thousands of elderly and disabled Californians could lose vital home care and end up in nursing homes under the recent budget proposal from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.  According to the report, the governor's proposed cuts to the $5.5 billion In-Home Supportive Services program would turn back the clock on three decades of how society cares for the elderly and disabled.  The SCAN Foundation sponsored the research, which received wide media coverage throughout the state.
