New York Senator Seeks $16 million for U.S. Silver Alert System

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) has proposed legislation to create a federal alert system similar to the AMBER alert system, to help track down people suffering from dementia who have wandered away from their homes, nursing homes, and other long-term care facilities. “We have all this wonderful technology”, said Nicole Doliner, whose father, suffering from Alzheimer's in March 2008, drove away from his Port Washington home and died shortly after crashing in Sands Point, New York. “Why not use some of that technology for patients who need our care?”, she said, in this October 12, 2009 story in Newsday.
