By 2040, the population ages 85+ in rural California will grow 158%, nearly 50 times faster than the traditional working-age population (ages 18-64). In addition to population growth, how we define \u201crural\u201d has implications for program planning and funding. Depending on which classification is used, California can look mostly urban or mostly rural.
