Desde 2001 hasta su jubilaci\u00f3n en 2023, el Dr. Southam se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como Vicepresidente Ejecutivo Nacional de Operaciones de Planes de Salud y Director de Crecimiento de Kaiser Permanente, el plan y sistema de salud sin fines de lucro m\u00e1s grande de Estados Unidos, con ingresos anuales superiores a los 100 mil millones de d\u00f3lares y que atiende a 12,5 millones de afiliados y pacientes. Antes de incorporarse a Kaiser Permanente, el Dr. Southam fue director ejecutivo de dos planes de salud con sede en California, Health Net y CareAmerica, y de Health Systems Design, empresa desarrolladora de software para planes de salud y grupos m\u00e9dicos. El Dr. Southam es miembro del Consejo Asesor de Pol\u00edticas Sociales y Econ\u00f3micas de RAND Corporation. Ha presidido las juntas directivas de CHRISTUS Health, Easterseals of Southern California, el Consejo para la Atenci\u00f3n M\u00e9dica Asequible y de Calidad (CAQH), la Asociaci\u00f3n de Planes de Salud de California y la Asociaci\u00f3n de Atenci\u00f3n M\u00e9dica Integrada.
