Mari Nicholson, MHS
Mari Nicholson serves as Director of Communications for The SCAN Foundation and is responsible for overseeing its communication strategies and grantmaking. Ms. Nicholson has extensive public health and communication experience, developing dynamic products that inform and engage key audiences. Previously she served as a Senior Communications Officer at FHI 360, leading external communications for the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR), a public-private partnership of the nation’s foremost childhood obesity research funders. She also provided technical assistance to communities implementing programs that prevent and reduce chronic disease and improve community health, including older adult health. Prior to working in social marketing and the nonprofit sector, Ms. Nicholson was a reporter, columnist, and copy editor for the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
Ms. Nicholson holds a Master of Health Science degree, concentrating in Nutrition, from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. While there, she also earned a Certificate in Gerontology from the Johns Hopkins Department of Health Policy and Management and edited a book on applying guided care, a model for delivering chronic care. Ms. Nicholson completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Political Science from UCLA.
