Every community should have a Multisector Plan for Aging
Through investment, cross-sector planning support, and scalable tools we’re empowering every state nationwide to develop a plan that ensures all Americans can age well at home with purpose
The Problem
Nationwide, older adults, caregivers, and families are struggling to find and fund the care and support they need as they age. As our aging populations continues to grow, the following compounding factors are making this challenge more acute, gaining the attention of a leaders, community advocates, and policymakers:
Limited access and coverage to the essential services and supports that enable people to remain in their homes as they age.
Increasing fragmented health and aging systems are inconsistent and tough to navigate, especially for those from marginalized communities.
Existing systems are designed to respond to acute needs, rather than the overall health and wellbeing of the whole person.
Communities do not adequately center the unique needs of older adults and adults with disabilities to inform its systems and supports.
The Opportunity
Nationwide states are recognizing the need to conduct high-level, cross-sector planning to prepare for the aging population and ensure that the needs of older adults, people with disabilities, and family caregivers are met over the coming decade. An Multisector Plan for Aging (or MPA) establishes a 10-year blueprint that guides the restructuring of state and local policy and programs while connecting the public, private, and independent sectors to create systems-based solutions that touch all major areas of the aging life experience — health, human services, housing, transportation, consumer affairs, employment, and income security.
Our priority actions
Through investment, cross-sector planning support, and scalable tools across these priority projects, The SCAN Foundation aims to empower every state to have a Multisector Plan for Aging.
