Senior Policy Analyst

Michelle Matter, EdD, MBA, MAG

Michelle Matter serves as the Senior Policy Analyst for The SCAN Foundation. In this role, she acts as the principal analyst who supports and promotes the Foundation’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities by evaluating, reporting on, and engaging with communications, policy, and programmatic issues related to aging, health, family caregiving, and long-term care efforts.

With more than 20 years of experience, Michelle has worked in state government, higher education, and the nonprofit aging sector. Prior to joining the Foundation, she served as Director of Special Projects for ElderHelp of San Diego, where she was actively involved with the San Diego Senior Alliance and the Center for Excellence and Aging Longevity at San Diego State University (SDSU). Her previous experience includes being District Director for a California legislator and as Director of Communications and External Affairs for Serving Seniors. Michelle is also an Advisory Board Member for the SDSU School of Social Work.

Michelle completed her Doctor of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California. Her dissertation was a promising practice study examining the benefits of senior nutrition programs as a cost savings to Medicare. She also has a Master of Arts in Gerontology from the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and an MBA from Louisiana State University.

You will often find Michelle at a football or baseball game, and as an avid sports fan, she has been traveling on annual sports road trips since 2007.
